Ai Weiwei (Beijing, 1957) gained worldwide recognition after participating in the design and construction of the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, along with Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. He also participated in Venice Biennale and Kassel Documenta, as well as achieving great success with his installation at the Tate Modern of over one-hundred million sunflower seeds cast in porcelain by a thousand Chinese craftsmen.
