Author(s): Ronne Randall

Children's Classic Fiction

Myths are the oldest stories of all, and the ones that come from the deepest and most powerful part of the human spirit. They help us to explain the world around us and to make sense of our place within it. The myths and legends in this book come from many different cultures all over the world. They are filled with adventure, magic, mystery, and the wonders of the human heart and spirit. They are a gift to us from our most distant ancestors, for us to enjoy and treasure for all time. Retold for young children, and beautifully illustrated throughout by a leading children's illustrator, this book is perfect for reading together or for new readers to try themselves. This is a stunningly illustrated collection of stories, myths and legends from around the world. It features tales from every continent divided into the following chapters: Beginnings, The Heavens and the Elements, Love and Marriage, Gods and Goddesses, Heroic Deeds, Growth and Rebirth, and Death and Endings.
It includes such familiar tales as "Romulus and Remus", "King Midas and the Golden Touch", and "Gilgamesh", as well as lesser known stories such as "Finn MacCool and the Salmon", "Tulugaak and the bag of Light", and "Savitri and Satyavan". Evocative and vivid paintings by a leading illustrator will delight and inspire young readers from 8 to 12 years.
