Description

Huge, magnificent, alone, a white bear moves through the frozen Arctic. Powerful hunter, tender mother and gentle playmate - she shares this land of ice and snow with the Inuit people, who watch and learn from her. This title takes the readers on a journey into the world of the polar bear.

Author description

Nicola Davies is an author and zoologist. She says the Arctic is the most extraordinary place she has ever been. Nicola wanted to capture its magic by writing about the two ultimate Arctic survivors, polar bears and the Inuit people. Nicola is also the author of Big Blue Whale, Surprising Sharks and Poo. Gary Blythe is the illustrator of many picture books for children, but this is the first non-fiction title. The majesty of the polar bears provided him with lots of inspiration, he says, as well as the chance to work with a new range of brighter colours. Gary recently illustrated Bram Stoker's Dracula, adapted by Jan Needle.
