Author of the Iranian national epic Shahnama ('Book of Kings'), Persian poet Abu'l-Qasim Mansur Firdawsi (c. 940-1019/1025), also Ferdowsi, is one of the most celebrated figures in literary history. One of the longest epic poems written by a single poet, the Shahnama is a chronicle of Persian myth and history, from the creation of the world through to the fall of the Sasanian Empire to the Muslim conquest c. 651 ᴀᴅ.
